Storm Calmer

This week I want to start off with some verses, “But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭14:26-33‬ ‭

I think that Peter is a great example of what a lot of us are like as we follow Jesus in our everyday lives. I think sometimes we are still worrying about things that Jesus has already conquered in our lives, you see He had already calmed a storm before. He can do it again. But, we like Peter do not see that we are only looking at the storm that is raging around us and seem to miss a lot of the little miracles and some of the big miracles that occur. Even though we seem to notice more miracles during the storms than in any other season in our lives. You would think that we would notice more on a peaceful lake than on a stormy night at sea, but it always seems to be more during the storms in our lives. A lot of you may think that Jesus is closer to us during the storms of our lives, but the truth is, He is always right there. It just takes a storm for us to notice His light radiating all around us, because we are so busy, we miss all the miracles that happen in our everyday lives. But, even in the storm there is lightning, wind, rain, and thunder that can distract us from Jesus and make us forget that He is right there with us.

I want to encourage you, that when you find yourself in a storm to remember Jesus is a storm calmer, whether it is a storm within you or it is something going on around you, remember that He is right there with you, if you are a Christian. If not, He can be right there with you, all you have to do is accept Him into your life, it is a free gift and He wants to come walk on the waters of life with you every day, whether you are in a storm or on a peaceful lake. Just remember that it is never too late, no matter what you have done, He still wants to know you and love you through it all, He will not love your sin, but He will love you.

This week I want to encourage you no matter where you are to look for Jesus moving in your life, it may feel like He is closer in the storms of life, but He is always there, we just need to slow down long enough to notice. Also, if you do not know Him, He wants to come and walk with you through life, He loves you more than anyone could or will. He will be beside you in the calm and through the storms all you have to do is accept the free gift of salvation by admitting that you are a sinner; sin is anything that was not in God’s original plan for His world and that saddens the heart of God; and believe that 2000 years ago  He sent His only begotten son to die on Calvary’s Hill for your sins bridging the gap between mankind and God forever, and confess Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of your life.
