This week I want to start off with some verses, “Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Luke 14:34-35 God has called Christians to be the salt of the earth. This means when God looks down at the earth He sees someone who is different from the rest of the world. Salt in ancient times was used for many different purposes, it was a preservative, a medicine to rub on wounds like we use triple antibiotics and also as a flavoring as we do today. Another way was as payment, because one pound of salt was equal to one pound of gold, thus enabling people to live in that society. Let’s start off with the first thing salt was used for that I mentioned, which was as a preservative, when God looks down He sees the blood of Jesus on us and He also sees all the evil and sin in the world, but He sees all the lost souls and preserves the world, so that we can share the gospel with them. The second one I mentioned was medicine, which I think can be determined to mean two things, one would be to help those who are sick and those who are in need, this was a huge aspect of Jesus’ ministry caring for the needs of the hurting. The second would be to bring medicine to the hearts we can’t fix ourselves. We have to let God come into our hearts to cover our sins. The third one I mentioned was flavoring, I think once you get to know someone who is a Christian, they are different from everyone else, they have joy and shake up the way you live and think, because without Christ you may not understand how they always have joy in their lives. They are what’s different in the room and what makes them different is Jesus. Christians are supposed to be the salt in the room. The fourth one I mentioned was salt could be used as a payment system, you can live without money, but it is not easy and there will be many things you struggle with. Just like if you do not know Jesus then your life will be filled with fear and anxiety. You can live life without Jesus , but your life will not be full or easy, but it is possible. If you die without money you will be alright, but if you die without Jesus you will not. This week I want you to look over your life and see if you have the characteristics of salt and if not, make sure that you are saved, so when God sees your sins instead He sees the blood of His son. You can do that today, there is a link below or it may be that you have become complacent in your faith and have become unsalty, because you have not been with Him lately. Make sure you do not live your life without being a son or daughter of the King, if you want to know Christ click the link below.
