This week I want to start off with some verses, From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way. And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food.” Then the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. And the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord , that he take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live. Numbers 21:4-7, 9, And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. John 3:14-15 The Israelites were plagued by fiery serpents and were dying. Moses cried out to the Lord, the Lord told Moses to lift up a snake on a pole and anyone who looked on the bronze snake would live. See it wasn’t the action of looking at the snake, it was the faith that saved their physical lives. This was a picture of the sin that Jesus would take on and destroy forever by being lifted up on the cross except He will save our souls. He wants to know us, He wants us to have faith and trust in Him. The Israelites were always complaining about everything that happened to them. We are in a situation where we could very easily complain about having to stay home or about having to go out to work or to go to the grocery store. But we could choose not to complain and to see that maybe God did not cause it, but He allowed it to happen. He will work all of this out for His glory, in all of the situations we find ourselves in during this time. We will look back on this sometime in the future and we will say we could see that God was working all of this for His good. And we will see we learned some important things through this time. That no matter how much technology we have, He is the only one that has ever been in control and He is the only one who will ever be in control. He wants to have a personal relationship with you. We get to have a personal relationship with the King of the universe. This week let’s remember who is in control! That no matter what happens, if we have faith in what He did for us on the cross, how He was lifted up for us, so we could live with Him forever in Heaven. And let’s remember that God wants faith over action, it wasn’t the act of looking towards the bronze snake, it was the faith it took to look. So let’s remember to let our faith grow during this time.
