John the Baptist

This week I want to start off with a verse. But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God, and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.” Luke 1:13‭-‬17 John the Baptist the voice crying in the wilderness that Emmanuel is coming. Most of us probably know the story of John the Baptist. So I am not going to talk about that this week. John the Baptist was not just telling everyone about his cousin he was telling them about King of Kings. He literally jumped for joy the first time he was in His presence and that was before he was born. John was born for a specific task to do ,he was to ring out the news that the Messiah was coming. And the truth is that we were all made for a specific purpose to tell everyone that Jesus came at Christmas over 2000 yrs ago. He is coming again and no man shall know the hour, so we must be ready. All of us need to be telling people about Him dying on the cross over 2000 yrs ago for our sins. But to tell the world of what Jesus has done for them we must give something up just like John was asked to take up a nazarite vow. Which meant he could not be around any dead thing, that he could not cut his hair and not drink or  eat anything of the vine. God may be calling you to give something up to be able to minister to the people of the world. So as we are coming closer and closer to Christmas let’s remember that Jesus came to save the world and He wants us to tell the world that the next time He comes He is not coming as a baby in a manager ,but as a conqueror to take back the dominion of the world from satan and sin.
