Broken

When we look around we are likely to all feel that the world is broken, but none of us know what a perfect world looks like. So where do we get this inherent knowledge that there is something wrong with the world and with us? The Bible says in  Romans‬ ‭8:22-23, “For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.” See, we inherently feel that the world is broken, that there should be no death, sin, or sickness. That the world has somehow changed from its original design, that this is not how it was supposed to be.

In Genesis 3, we learn why the world is broken and that is because we were given free will by God and we chose to rebel. In the beginning there was only one rule: you could not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17). It worked for a while, until the snake showed up, we learned in Ezekiel 28:12-19 the origins of Satan, but the reason the world is broken was not all the snake’s (Satan’s) fault, it was really a choice to obey or disobey. See, the snake said, the reason God did not want them to eat of the tree was because they would become like God. When both Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit, then their eyes were opened and they knew the difference between good and evil. Then God came into the garden and confronted and punished them. He puts them out of the garden and puts a guard at the entrance of the garden, so they could not eat of the tree of life.

Then thousands of years later, God sent His only Son to die on a cross and to rise again on the third day out of a garden tomb. Breaking the bonds of sin and death forever so that none of us should perish, but all should live forever with Him. But, He gave us the gift of free will again, we each have to choose whether we will accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Because God cannot look upon sin, someone had to atone for our sins, so we could live with Him forever. There is only one who lived a sinless life, that died to take all our sins and that is Jesus. He is our only hope, so we do not have to die the second death that separates us from God forever.

See, we all know the world is broken, but one day the world will be destroyed and there will be a new earth that is perfect. The reason we all feel the world is broken is because we have the law written on our hearts (Romans 2:15) and there is a Cross shaped hole in your heart, that nothing else can fill. Only Christ will fill it, if we try to fill it with anything else, it will not work. You can try everything, but that is just a band aid solution and sooner or later all band aids lose their adhesive. Some last longer than others, but nothing but Jesus can fill the hole. That emptiness you feel is the same feeling you have that causes you to know that the world is broken.

So, do you want to live forever with God? Your forever can start today! You can fill the hole in your heart and have hope that yes, the world is broken, but God is still moving. To start your forever with Him all you have to do is to admit that you are a sinner, believe that He died on the cross for your sins, and confess Him as Lord of your life. Do not wait, the world is broken and because it is, you are not promised tomorrow.

As Christians we need to pray for the broken world. Now more than ever I think that people are open to the gospel, because of the uncertainty that is currently all over the world. Remember, that no man knows the time nor the hour that Jesus is coming. It could be any second, remember the great commission that our goal is to go unto all the world and make disciples.
