Power of Input

This week I want to start off with some verses from God’s word, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:1-17‬

This week I want to talk about keeping your mind on things above and not on this world. In these verses the Bible tells us how we should put off the old self and put on the new self. Then it talks about what you should put to death, the desires of your former self. One way I find that I am able to keep my mind on things above is by turning away from secular media and only consuming Chrisitan media. I can tell you as a Christian when you do this, you will naturally start to lose your desire to do the things that we are to put to death and then those desires will be naturally replaced with the ones we are supposed to put on through Christ. Christian media is mostly produced to reach others with the gospel and to encourage us as Christians. But Secular media is mostly produced for financial gain and to push the world’s agenda. The world‘s agenda will be the exact things that are listed above in the things to put to death. It comes to the same idea your mother may have used, what you input will cause the output of similar things. I want to tweak that a little, what you put in will cause thoughts that will cause action and depending on what you put in, it will determine what your action will cause, hurt and death or love and life.

This last week, for 3 days I mainly just watched and listened to secular media not counting school or my bible study. Then for the other 4 days I consumed mainly Christian media. I think I watched a couple of secular tv shows, but it was mainly Christian media. When the 3 days were over, of just the secular media I felt like the world was all hate and felt empty inside and no love. After the other 4 days of just consuming Christian media, I saw that we could be helping the hate filled world by showing them love. Secular media is not always bad, some are good, but if you look at most of the good secular media it is backed by Christians or tamed for children and it can still be filled with sin and hurt even in those.

So this week, I want to challenge you to consume just Christian media for a day or more, that can exclude weather and work or school, but other than that all Christian media. Maybe you say I don’t know where to start, well I can help you with that. I have a list of Christian media on my website or down below on this post and they are mostly free, there are a few things I added that are paid, like PureFlix . So this week keep your mind on things above and try just for a day to consume Christian media and see if your outlook on the world changes and when it does, then maybe just stop consuming secular media for a week, then a month. If we change our input we will have a more Godly outlook.
